Argumentative Essay: Support for the Free State Funding of Education

In my essay I argue for the fact that there should be free state funding for education, and I argue that it is not only in the best interest of the people within our country, but that it is in the best interest of a developed country such as ours. My belief is that free state funding for education is not simply a gimmick that powerful countries use to show they are rich and powerful. It is actually a means to an end, and that end is a more powerful and secure country with a better and brighter future in the middle-to-long term.

People that are taught how to think will make smarter decisions for our country

We are leaving the country in the hands of the young people we create, and too few people are forward thinking enough to realize it. For example, the gaming industry has been attacked since the Playstation 1 appeared and revolutionized gaming. The gaming community has always fought hard to protect it, but what they failed to realize was that one day the Playstation 1 players were going to be in charge. Nowadays, gamers and “nerd” culture dominates more than ever, from the movie business to mobile technology, and the reason is because gamers that were attacked 15 years ago are now in charge. We can allow only the rich to get a good education and leave ignorant masses to control our future, or we can give everybody a chance for a good education and leave a smart and thoughtful generation to success our future.

More skilled people in our country will improve our country’s output potential

If we trained 75% more people within our population to participate meaningfully in tertiary industry, it stands to reason that our output in tertiary industry would improve dramatically. That is just a silly number that was thrown out there as an example, but the truth is that training and teaching people new skills and talents will lead to a larger potential output for our country as a whole.

Our low emigration numbers will keep the talent in our country

A successful country will have more jobs. As a result, people will immigrate into the country in order to look for work. It is far less likely that educated citizens within a successful and developed country will leave to work in a less-developed and less-successful country. Yes, it does happen, but not in significant numbers.

As a result, the people that are educated within a successful country will stay within the country and use their talents there, which mean the country gains a massive benefit from teaching its citizens for free. A successful country will also attract educated people from other countries, which means the country gets to experience the benefits of skilled workers that they didn’t pay for (didn’t have to pay for their education anyway).

Conclusion

All of these facts combined show that if we give away free education to citizens, then other countries are going to have a hard time beating us. What’s more, our country can afford to give away funding to pay for free education, especially when you consider that it ensures the future success and prosperity of our country in the middle-to-long run.
