Generally, students are excited when school is finished. They seem ready to go home. Maybe they are in a hurry to play video games or want to go play with their friends or even just to sleep. But why not find something to do after school that you can enjoy? Larger public and private schools usually have a variety of sports and other activities such as Key Club, Debate Club, Future Homemakers of America, Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, Drama Club, and many more. Finding something to do after school can bring you confidence, sociability, happiness, and energy. If your school is limited or does not have any after school activity, the school will more than likely let you start up your after school niche. All you need to do is get permission from your principal, find other students with a similar interest, and decide meeting times.
Examples of After School Activities
From the above mentioned after school activities, my favorite is the Drama Club. Drama can bring a shy person confidence through acting and one can become fearless on stage in front of people, which is the number one fear of people in America. People actually fear getting on stage in front of an audience more than they fear death. Drama, along with public speaking, will take away those fears. Another common after school activity is the National Honor Society. If you like competition in intelligence, you will know who to compete with within your school. Plus, most parents are usually quite happy when they know their son or daughter is part of one of the most respected clubs in America. The National Honor Society also has a very extraordinary initiation ceremony where crowds often attend.
School Sports
Obviously, school sports are the most common after school activities. If you enjoy a sport, then try to play it. If you will feel that you will not be good at a sport, you just simply need to try. As a coach of a variety of different sports, I believe everyone can be taught how to play and play well. It just depends on a student’s motivation and listening skills. If you like to be noticed as an individual, then play a sport such as golf, tennis, wrestling or track (track can be a team sport when having relays). If you like being on a team and trying to compete with the best, then play football, baseball, volleyball, softball, soccer, basketball, amongst many others.
After School Snacks
When you have joined an after school activity, you will soon understand that to help fund your activity, you will need to have fundraisers. After school snacks is a great way to get money from your program. Have your coach set out an area or areas outside of the school for selling after school snacks where students are picked up. There are plenty of businesses in your community that will help buy your after school snacks (usually candy or ice cream) and just sell the snacks for a little more than what was paid for them
No matter your choice of an after school program, join your niche and become involved. In at least one way, you will better yourself and make more friends.
